Staff Backend Engineer – Grafana Enterprise

Job Description

Seeking a Staff Backend Engineer to enhance Grafana's data accessibility and meet business goals. Design and develop scalable backend services and enterprise features. Drive engineering culture improvement and manage projects through the development lifecycle. Ensure Grafana platform scalability, reliability, and security. Participate in on-call rotations, focusing on ops load reduction. Mentor engineers and improve engineering practices. Strong teamwork and communication skills are essential for our remote-first environment.

Qualifications

1. Extensive experience in production service development and operations at scale. 2. Strong understanding of distributed systems: replication, consistency, fault tolerance. 3. Experience designing systems for high-traffic, high-availability, or multi-tenant environments. 4. Professional experience building and consuming gRPC/protobuf APIs. 5. Strong database skills (PostgreSQL or MySQL): schema design, query optimization, schema migrations. 6. Experience with CI/CD systems and continuous delivery pipelines. 7. Comfort with Kubernetes and containerized deployments. 8. Experience with observability tooling: OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, structured logging, tracing. 9. Familiarity with dependency injection patterns.
