Job Description
Define and champion Child Care Aware of America's (CCAoA) national narrative, ensuring consistent and impactful messaging across all platforms. Position CCAoA as a key player in addressing national child care challenges. Lead the development of a compelling message framework that connects families, workforce, economy, and system-building. Design and implement a comprehensive strategy spanning media, thought leadership, partnerships, and executive visibility. Elevate CCAoA's influence with policymakers, business leaders, funders, and national media. Partner with the CEO to shape voice, visibility, and external engagement. Collaborate with program, policy, and research leaders to ensure initiatives are effective and resonate with external audiences. Integrate communications into program design and execution. Translate audience insights into actionable feedback. Incorporate communications into key operational moments. Translate research and policy insights into persuasive content. Amplify emerging ideas and solutions. Shape internal messaging to drive external traction. Oversee brand strategy and reputation management. Lead proactive and reactive communications. Reinforce CCAoA's credibility as a data-driven leader. Strengthen communications across the national network. Build shared tools and messaging. Shape national convenings for influence. Advise the CEO and executive team on reputation and messaging. Build trust across the executive team. Co-develop strategies to ensure external resonance. Support fund development and donor engagement. Lead across boundaries to ensure shared ownership. Build and lead a high-performing communications function. Develop and support team members. Foster a culture of transparency and respect. Set clear priorities and performance expectations. Establish systems for integrating communications. Bring operational discipline to the function.
Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s degree in public policy, communications, political science, or a related field is preferred. 2. 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in communications, public affairs, or related fields, including significant executive-level responsibility. 3. Demonstrated success shaping national narratives, influencing public discourse, and elevating organizational visibility. 4. Experience working at the intersection of policy, research, advocacy, and public engagement. 5. Proven ability to partner with executive leadership and operate as a trusted strategic advisor. 6. Track record of building and leading high-performing teams and managing complex, cross-functional initiatives. 7. Demonstrated ability to lead with emotional intelligence, sound judgment, and integrity—especially in complex, high-visibility environments. 8. Experience building trust and credibility across senior leadership, teams, and external stakeholders. 9. Proven ability to navigate and lead through organizational change, balancing strategic ambition with operational realities. 10. Track record of developing talent and building cohesive, accountable teams.
