Senior UX Designer – Map Visualisation

Job Description

Shape the future of map visualization as a Senior UX Designer at TomTom. You will be at the forefront of designing and refining both 2D and 3D map visualizations, ensuring they meet the highest standards from concept to final delivery. Your work will involve maintaining and improving TomTom's core map styles to guarantee consistency and readability across all platforms. Close collaboration with engineering teams will be essential, contributing to discussions on map data structures and rendering requirements to achieve design goals. Your insights from user research will drive design improvements, and you'll play a key role in developing the Map Visualization design system and its documentation.

Qualifications

1. A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in UX design, cartographic design, GIS, geospatial visualization, or a related field. 2. A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Cartography, Geography, GIS, UX Design, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. 3. A solid background in digital cartography, GIS, or geographic information design. 4. Practical experience in designing and implementing multi-zoom digital maps. 5. Proficiency with mapping technologies such as MapLibre, Mapbox GL JS, OpenStreetMap data, QGIS, ArcGIS, Leaflet, OpenLayers, or similar platforms. 6. Familiarity with various spatial datasets, including vector tiles, raster tiles, GeoJSON, and shapefiles. 7. Ability to create visually appealing 2D and 3D map experiences. 8. Familiarity with software development workflows, including version control (Git), pull requests, code reviews, and CI/CD pipelines. 9. Ability to comprehend technical documentation and collaborate with engineers on implementation trade-offs.
