Senior Manager, Fraud & Payments Risk

Job Description

Take the lead in enhancing fraud prevention at Baselane as a Senior Manager, Fraud & Payments Risk. You'll spearhead Baselane's Fraud & Payments Risk team, focusing on team performance, professional growth, and coaching for the Risk Specialists and Lead. Act as a player-coach by handling complex investigations and escalations, while also guiding the Lead and Specialists. Drive strategic initiatives to advance our risk program through detection tooling, decision-making infrastructure, and process scaling. Partner with Product, Engineering, and CX teams to implement durable controls and champion risk management within the organization. Manage significant fraud escalations, lead incident response for high-exposure cases, and maintain sponsor bank partnerships.

Qualifications

1. Requires 10+ years of experience in fraud, payments risk, or financial crime, preferably in a fintech, payments company, or digital bank. 2. Experience in a start-up or fintech environment, demonstrating the ability to build, prioritize, and make decisions in fast-paced settings. 3. Proven experience in people management, ideally leading fraud or risk teams through growth phases, developing individual contributors, and maintaining high performance standards. 4. Expertise in fraud and risk assessment, with the ability to provide informed judgment on IDs, behavior patterns, and complex cases. 5. Knowledge of payment rails and regulatory frameworks, including ACH, wire, debit card, and check fraud patterns, along with regulations like Reg E and Reg CC. 6. A passion for building and scaling functions from an early stage. 7. Strong analytical skills, with the ability to ground decisions in data and collaborate with data teams for insights. 8. An operator's mindset, thriving in ambiguous situations, moving quickly and thoughtfully, and building without a predefined playbook.
