Security Engineer Intern

Job Description

Calix is looking for a Security Engineer Intern. In this role, you will: - Research, design, and implement Proof of Concepts for AI platforms, tools, and services to streamline and improve security detection and response activities. - Determine how AI can define and tune detection capabilities to identify malicious activity in our Cloud environments. - Explore how AI can remediate risks before they occur and prevent vulnerability exploitation. - Evaluate how AI can automate security processes, reducing manual chores and improving efficiency. - Determine how AI can secure public cloud environments (e.g., AWS, GCP) and hybrid infrastructures while ensuring compliance with standards. - Evaluate how AI can be used to analyze complex log data in real time to detect never before seen attacks. - Document all research, proof of concept implementations, and generate a final recommendation report for each AI tool, service, or platform investigated.

Qualifications

1. Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related technical field. 2. Foundational understanding of OS internals (Linux/Windows), network protocols (TCP/IP), and cloud security principles. 3. Ability to read and write scripts in a modern language (Python preferred, PowerShell/Bash). 4. Experience in "labs"—whether that's network simulators, personal projects, or cybersecurity "Capture the Flag" (CTF) platforms. 5. Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication skills, with an eagerness to learn in a fast-paced environment. 6. Able to work for the complete summer break (May - August or June - September).
