Quantity Surveyor / Cost Engineer – Construction, NZ Projects
Job Description
We're seeking a meticulous Quantity Surveyor to bolster cost management for construction ventures in New Zealand. In this role, you'll prepare detailed project quotes covering labor, materials, subcontractors, and margins; scrutinize supplier and subcontractor pricing; and produce professional quotations for client submission. You will also maintain estimating templates and pricing libraries, identify and document project variations, prepare variation cost breakdowns and justification reports, and maintain a complete variation register per project. Furthermore, you'll ensure approved variations are reflected in budgets and contract values, prepare timely progress claims and charge-up invoices, and reconcile claims against contract values and approved variations. Managing invoice-related queries with clients and internal teams will be crucial, along with maintaining complete financial documentation for all projects. Monitoring project budgets against actual costs, tracking cost categories, and producing cost reports will be integral. You'll also track labor hours, prepare productivity reports, and collaborate with site teams to align labor forecasting. You'll coordinate material ordering, manage supplier relationships, reconcile purchase orders, and act as a liaison between office and site teams. Supporting continuous improvement of systems and workflows is essential. This role requires strong numerical accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Qualifications
1. Experience in Quantity Surveying, estimating, or construction cost administration 2. Strong proficiency in Buildertrend or similar construction management platforms 3. Excellent numerical accuracy and attention to detail 4. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously 5. Strong written communication and documentation skills 6. Experience working with both office and site-based teams 7. Formal qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related field (Desirable) 8. Experience in residential or commercial construction projects ($1M–$2M range) (Desirable) 9. Familiarity with NZ construction standards and contract frameworks (e.g., NZS 3910) (Desirable) 10. Experience in procurement and supplier management (Desirable)
