Protection and Controls Engineer

Job Description

We are seeking a Protection and Controls Engineer to contribute to the electrical engineering design aspects of various projects. Responsibilities include: - Managing electrical engineering design work for assigned projects. - Collaborating with the Project Engineer and Project Manager to develop design schedules and budgets for electrical engineering activities. - Conducting power system studies and system protection settings coordination across different projects. - Creating basis of design documentation for protection settings and relay configurations. - Providing support during construction, start-up, and commissioning phases. - Participating in client meetings to understand requirements and provide updates. - Traveling occasionally to client and project sites for data gathering and field assessments.

Qualifications

To qualify for this role, candidates should meet the following requirements: 1. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with 2+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and education. 2. Minimum of 2 years of protection and controls experience in electrical engineering. 3. Possession of an EIT certification. 4. Understanding of FERC and NERC requirements for regulatory compliance. 5. Familiarity with IEC61850 standards for communication networks and systems in substations. 6. Demonstrated success working with remote teams in a collaborative environment. 7. Experience with commissioning in field settings. 8. Proficiency in using power systems analysis software (SKM, EasyPower, Etap). 9. Expertise in relay coordination using ASPEN OneLiner. 10. Experience developing native relay setting files for protection systems. 11. Knowledge of distribution automation technologies and practices. 12. Experience working in collaborative 3D model environments, such as Navisworks.
