Principal DevOps Engineer
Job Description
Lead the definition and execution of a long-term infrastructure/platform strategy aligned with business goals and R&D needs. Spearhead cross-organizational initiatives like multi-cloud strategies, disaster recovery architecture, and platform modernization. Craft resilient, scalable, and secure architectures. Conduct architectural reviews to pinpoint systemic issues, technical debt, and optimization opportunities. Define rollout plans for major changes like DB migrations, Kubernetes upgrades, and network redesigns to ensure uninterrupted service. Advance internal developer platforms and tools, including self-service infrastructure and golden paths/paved roads. Set up Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and GitOps standards with reusable patterns that balance productivity, security, compliance, and cost-effectiveness. Establish company-wide reliability practices using SLOs/SLIs and error budgets. Drive observability/alerting strategies. Reduce manual effort and improve mean time to recovery (MTTR) through automation and self-healing mechanisms. Identify and implement efficiency enhancements. Lead platform-wide security and compliance initiatives, including zero trust, encryption in transit/at rest, and regulatory compliance. Reinforce controls like segmentation, secrets management, access control, and vulnerability management to secure the software supply chain. Enhance cost transparency and governance. Identify cost optimization opportunities across cloud resources, databases, and services without sacrificing reliability or performance. Mentor DevOps Engineers, Senior DevOps Engineers, and Tech Leads. Contribute to promotion decisions. Develop learning paths and facilitate knowledge-sharing within the infrastructure community. Provide escalation support for critical incidents. Lead post-incident reviews and implement improvements to incident response processes and tooling.
Qualifications
1. Expert-level knowledge of cloud platforms (GCP/AWS), Kubernetes, infrastructure-as-code (Pulumi/Terraform), and modern DevOps practices. 2. Proven ability to design large-scale, distributed systems, balancing complexity, reliability, and cost. 4.
