Licence Expansion Manager

Canada – Remote Full-time

Job Description

Seeking a driven Licence Expansion Manager to spearhead Nium's regulatory licensing strategy across the United States and Canada. This role involves leading efforts to secure US Money Transmission Licences (MTLs), pursuing crypto-specific licences, and supporting integration with Canada's real-time payment infrastructure. Responsibilities: * Lead the strategy and application process for US MTLs, focusing on California and New York. * Manage regulator relationships and track MTL applications. * Transition states to Nium's own MTL, ensuring operational readiness. * Identify and resolve blockers to operationalisation. * Lead applications for crypto licence variations. * Monitor evolving US state-level crypto licensing requirements. * Support Nium's integration with Payments Canada's Real-Time Rail (RTR) and the Interac network. * Track budgets, risks, and timelines, reporting to senior leadership. * Build strong relationships with regulators. * Contribute to Nium's global licensing strategy.

Qualifications

What We're Looking For: 1. 5+ years of experience in the legal, compliance, or consulting space, with direct exposure to US financial services regulation. 2. Proven experience managing US state money transmission licence applications — from preparation and submission through to approval. 3. Strong understanding of US MTL frameworks, including state-specific requirements, surety bonds, net worth obligations, and examination processes. 4. Experience with crypto or virtual currency licensing at the state level (e.g. New York BitLicence, or equivalent) is highly desirable. 5. Familiarity with Canadian payment systems, including Payments Canada, Interac, and the Real-Time Rail, is a strong advantage. 6. Demonstrated ability to manage complex, multi-workstream licensing programmes in a fast-moving environment. 7. Experience working directly with regulators, including managing examiners and responding to regulatory queries. 8. Strong commercial and project management skills, with the ability to drive execution across cross-functional teams. 9. Experience in fintech, payments, e-money, cards, or stablecoins is strongly preferred.
