Financial Controller
Job Description
Become a change agent and leader, contributing to the overall operation and culture of accountability, upholding core values and standards. Manage, mentor, and develop the accounting team, driving accountability, deadlines, and continuous improvement in finance. Support the preparation of updates for company board meetings. Lead the monthly close process within Sage Intacct, including journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and variance analysis. Ensure accurate, complete, and timely financial results. Lead audit activities, preparing schedules and coordinating with external auditors. Manage accounting and corporate taxation with the CFO for global entities, including transfer pricing and sales tax remittances. Oversee SaaS revenue recognition, reviewing billing operations, including monthly, annual, and multi-year subscription invoicing. Ensure accurate revenue recognition per Company policy, including contract review, performance obligations, and deferred revenue tracking. Partner with Sales, Client Success, and Legal on contract terms affecting billings, revenue, renewals, and amendments. Support automation and improvement of customer billing and order-to-cash processes. Oversee cash activities, including bank reconciliations, receipts, and disbursements. Prepare short and medium-term cash flow forecasts within a multi-currency environment for liquidity planning. Monitor working capital, including collections, deferred revenue, and vendor payment timing. Lead banking relationships and treasury controls. Oversee payroll processing with HR and external payroll providers across regions. Ensure accurate accounting for payroll, commissions, bonuses, benefits, and related accruals. Support payroll automation initiatives and ensure statutory compliance. Maintain and enhance accounting policies, internal controls, and documentation. Support optimization and scaling of Sage Intacct, billing tools, and reporting processes. Apply AI in finance workflows (close, reconciliations, flux/variance analysis, FP&A, billing/revenue ops) to reduce manual effort and improve accuracy. Demonstrate strong command of data modeling and reporting, KPI design, and building 'single source of truth' datasets for finance, including trend analysis and drivers of MRR/ARR, churn, cash and margin. Act as a finance partner to department leaders, providing insight into spend, variances, and trends. Support leadership with financial analysis related to bookings, revenue, margins, and operating performance. Interface with external stakeholders including auditors, banks, brokers, and professional advisors. Support ad hoc analysis, special projects, and cross-functional initiatives.
Qualifications
1. Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or equivalent designation preferred. 2. 7+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, preferably within a SaaS or subscription-based business. 3. Prior experience as a Controller of a high growth private equity backed business, ideally in the enterprise software or SaaS space. 4. Strong working knowledge of ASPE and US GAAP. 5. Hands‑on experience with Sage Intacct or similar mid‑market ERP systems. 6. Experience supporting SaaS billing, deferred revenue, and contract accounting. 7. Strong Excel skills and comfort working with detailed data and reconciliations.
