Engineering Manager – Account Experience

Job Description

Join Primer as an Engineering Manager and take ownership of the end-to-end delivery for the Account Experience surface. Ensure the team maintains a high standard of quality, reliability, and efficiency without creating bottlenecks. Lead, mentor, and develop engineers by providing career guidance, feedback, and fostering an environment where top talent can excel. Stay technically involved by reviewing design decisions, contributing to architectural discussions, and helping engineers make informed decisions on scalability, latency, and data integrity. Partner with Product to define realistic roadmaps, proactively identify risks, and protect the team from over-commitment while maintaining a fast pace. Drive operational excellence across systems, focusing on monitoring, incident response, and thorough post-mortems. Play a key role in shaping Primer Companion as a leading merchant interface, balancing new features with the existing platform. As Primer grows, hiring and building a strong team is a crucial aspect of the role.

Qualifications

1. Proven experience in managing a team of software engineers, with accountability for delivery, growth, and performance. 2. Strong technical depth to effectively evaluate system designs, identify trade-offs, and assess information accuracy. 3. Experience in building and operating backend or platform systems at scale, with a focus on reliability and correctness. 4. Ability to operate autonomously with minimal oversight, resolving ambiguity proactively. 5. Sound judgment to determine when to involve Staff Engineers or initiate design reviews. 6. Exposure to payments, fintech, or AI-driven product surfaces (nice to have).
