Director of Retail, Shopper Insights
Job Description
Lead the development and implementation of retail and shopper strategies to drive channel-specific growth across mass, grocery, club, specialty, e-commerce, and other relevant channels. Leverage syndicated data (IRI, Nielsen, SPINS) and internal data to identify actionable trends, key insights, untapped opportunities, and potential risks, informing commercial strategies. Translate insights into strategic recommendations that shape assortment and pricing decisions, limited-time offers (LTOs) and promotional programming, and retail go-to-market strategies. Collaborate with the product team to influence roadmap decisions based on retail and shopper needs, as well as category and market trends. Work closely with sales teams on joint business planning inputs, compelling sell-in narratives, and effective retailer strategies. Guide marketing efforts by providing insights into shopper behavior and channel dynamics to optimize activation strategies. Partner with finance on trade investment decisions, promotional ROI analysis, and the P&L implications of channel and assortment choices. Establish a consistent cadence of insights (monthly/quarterly) for leadership and cross-functional teams. Serve as a trusted thought partner across the business, offering a "what matters and what to do about it" perspective.
Qualifications
1. Possess 8+ years of experience in shopper marketing, category strategy, insights, or retail strategy within the consumer packaged goods (CPG) industry. 2. Demonstrate high proficiency with syndicated data tools and the ability to transform data into actionable insights that drive decisions. 3. Have a proven track record of influencing commercial strategy, extending beyond mere campaign execution. 4. Exhibit comfort in collaborating across sales, marketing, and product teams, with the ability to navigate competing priorities effectively. 5. Bring a strong understanding of food, drug, mass, and convenience (FDMC) retail and omnichannel dynamics. 6. Be proactive, possess a strong point of view, and be capable of simplifying complexity into clear direction. 7. Go beyond simply reporting on performance by challenging it and shaping future actions.
