Job Description

Empower is looking for a Director of Data Engineering to lead a team focused on transforming data from diverse systems. This role involves enabling valuable insights and analytics for key business stakeholders. Responsibilities include creating technical roadmaps and strategic recommendations for data pipelines and integration. You will leverage cloud infrastructure to implement scalable and efficient data engineering solutions. Collaborate with analysts, scientists, database administrators, and cross-functional teams to tackle complex problems. Influence architectural decisions and design patterns across the data platform. Offer technical leadership throughout the software development lifecycle, contributing hands-on expertise. Develop project plans, prioritize timelines, allocate resources, and manage technical projects in a fast-paced setting. Conduct code reviews to ensure adherence to coding standards. Define and validate test cases to guarantee data quality and reliability, continuously improving the efficiency and scalability of data pipelines.

Qualifications

1. Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or equivalent. 2. 7+ years of post-degree professional experience. 3. 4+ years building and maintaining ETL pipelines in a data warehouse environment. 4. 5+ years of Python development experience. 5. Experience hiring and leading a team of 3+ data engineers. 6. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to initiate and drive projects. 7. Experience with AWS integrations such as Kinesis, Firehose, Aurora Unload, Redshift, Spectrum, Elastic Mapreduce, SageMaker, and Lambda. 8. Experience provisioning data sets for analytics tools and knowledge of analytic tools. 9. Expert SQL skills and proficiency designing and executing NoSQL databases. 10. Experience with API integrations with external vendors and data orchestration pipelines using Argo or Airflow.
