Developer Experience Engineer

Job Description

Become a key contributor to the engineering team, influencing outcomes at both individual and group levels. Act as a champion for developer tools, conducting training sessions, workshops, and live demonstrations. Create and enhance the tools, workflows, and platform features that enable engineers to produce superior software efficiently. Oversee the GitHub platform, pipeline, and repository standards within Veracross. Update and harmonize our development environment—from repository organization to CI/CD pipelines and AI-powered workflows. Utilize AI tools and agents to aid in code generation, issue resolution, test creation, and performance enhancements across various tech stacks. Establish guidelines for AI instruction sets in repositories and promote these guidelines and best practices. Offer mentoring and advice on best practices, tools, and AI-driven development approaches. Work with product, design, and engineering teams to convert specifications into streamlined, automated workflows. Integrate with different product domains, ensuring that DevEx tools support platforms such as SIS, Admissions, and Fundraising. Improve internal tools and developer processes through automation, smart integrations, and comprehensive pipelines. Help document systems, architecture, and engineering procedures to ensure clarity for both developers and AI systems. Enhance the context within Veracross's AI development environment to enable AI tools to provide more effective options for developers. Develop and manage integrations with essential third-party systems.

Qualifications

1. Expertise in GitHub administration: Actions, Advanced Security, Dependabot, branch protection rules, and org-level configuration. 2. Experience in building and managing CI/CD pipelines in complex, multi-repo environments. 3. Experience with GitHub Actions or similar CI/CD tools at scale. 4. Proficiency in troubleshooting data flow, performance, and integration issues across diverse stacks. 5. Proficiency in at least one scripting or backend language (Ruby, Python, PHP, TypeScript, etc.) for building tools and integrations. 6. Experience using AI coding tools (GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Codeium, or custom agents). 7. Comfort with prompt engineering and guiding AI toward high-quality code generation. 8. Passion for developer productivity, clean code, and intelligent automation. 9. Familiarity with AI-assisted test generation, coverage analysis, and automated documentation workflows. 10. Experience using AI agents for code reviews, refactoring, and repository-level improvements. 11. Excellent written and verbal communication skills—especially for documentation consumed by both developers and agents. 12. Strong technical organization and planning abilities. 13. Ability to work effectively in a remote, mostly asynchronous environment. 14. Flexibility, adaptability, and a collaborative mindset. 15. 4+ years of professional programming or platform engineering experience. 16. Experience with relational databases and SQL query optimization. 17. Experience with Git/GitHub and modern source-control workflows. 18. A service-oriented, team-first approach to engineering. 19. Authorized to work in the United States
