Customs Project Manager
Job Description
As a Customs Project Manager, your primary responsibility involves executing project-specific tariff models rooted in BOM, routing, Incoterms, destination prerequisites, and regulatory guidelines. You'll calculate total tariff exposure, generating vital calculations for duty-inclusive pricing, Estimates at Completion (EAC), and Change Order (CO) billing. Delivering well-timed re-estimates will be crucial whenever project scope, country of origin, or regulations alter duty impact. Your role includes updating and conveying customs-related cost-to-go and EAC insights, founded on both forecasted impacts and actual costs incurred, assuring precision for thorough project margin assessments. You'll play a key role in the EAC cycle, by submitting customs cost components in CPM, ensuring complete, traceable data aligned seamlessly with project governance mandates. Additionally, you'll lead in the preparation and upkeep of customs estimate backups essential for audits, margin evaluations, or customer documentation requests. Identifying potential duty mitigation tactics and teaming up with the Customs team for execution are essential components. Assess and handle customs-related risks like delays, penalties, demurrage, licensing concerns, or documentation gaps, devising mitigation strategies in collaboration with the broader Customs and Logistics COE. Your proactive planning will safeguard contractual delivery dates and prevent potential liquidated damages stemming from customs issues. You'll offer technical Customs input to Change Order justifications, encompassing tariff recalculations, duty impact evaluations, and requisite documentation. Supporting Project Managers in customer meetings about duty changes, classification decisions, or landed-cost consequences is crucial. Supplying project-level documentation will back duty recoverability and compliance needs. Make sure project-specific import documentation packages are accessible to 3rd party auditors. Your role ensures traceability and auditability of customs decisions, adhering to customer, trade compliance, and regulatory standards. You'll also contribute customs-related insights to project margin analyses, compliance audits, or customer-requested verifications. Establish preliminary project-specific customs strategies in sync with project sourcing and logistics strategies. Keep a close watch on duty rate changes, evaluating possible effects on future shipments, cost exposure, or customer promises.
