Job Description
Assume responsibility for all accounting functions, including the general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, grant accounting, and fixed assets. Produce accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards. Spearhead the monthly closing process, ensuring adherence to all reporting deadlines. Examine financial results and variances, providing valuable insights and recommendations to the CFO. Guarantee compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including IRS and nonprofit reporting mandates. Oversee the annual audit, acting as the primary contact for external auditors. Uphold and enhance internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures. Assist in the preparation of Form 990 and other essential filings, in partnership with the CFO and external advisors. Provide support to the CFO during the annual budgeting and forecasting activities. Keep track of budgets and grant expenditures to ensure adherence to donor and funding requirements. Manage accounting for grants, restricted funds, and contributions designated by donors. Manage, mentor, and cultivate the finance team.
Qualifications
1. A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field is strongly preferred. 2. A minimum of 5–8 years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory duties. 3. A solid understanding of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles. 4. Previous experience in managing audits and liaising with external auditors. 5. Proficiency in the use of accounting systems and Excel. 6. CPA or CMA certification is a plus. 7. Prior experience in a national or multi-entity nonprofit organization. 8. Familiarity with grants management and restricted fund accounting. 9. Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities. 10. A high level of attention to detail with the ability to handle multiple priorities. 11. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders. 12. Demonstrated leadership and people management skills.
