Associate Director, AI Transformation

Job Description

Define and lead CHAI's AI transformation strategy, pinpointing areas where AI can significantly improve enterprise operations, internal workflows, and team productivity across CHAI's global presence. Design, develop, and deploy custom AI-driven tools alongside the AI Transformation Manager, directly coding and working within AI-native environments like Claude Code and Cowork, ensuring top-tier technical standards. Co-manage CHAI's AI tool suite with the Innovation team, overseeing the assessment, selection, and governance of AI platforms used organization-wide. Establish AI governance frameworks that balance protection and agility. Promote the widespread adoption of internal AI tools throughout CHAI's global offices, employing strategies that cater to staff with varying technical expertise across different regions and roles. Track adoption, engagement, and ROI using established metrics. Lead and mentor the AI Transformation Manager, providing clear technical and career guidance to foster their professional development.

Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and at least 10 years of relevant professional experience, including direct experience leading AI, digital transformation, or technology adoption initiatives at scale in complex organizations. 2. Demonstrated hands-on building experience – you have personally designed, built, and shipped AI or software tools that others use. 3. Practical fluency with software engineering tools and practices – version control (e.g., GitHub), automated testing, and code review. 4. Hands-on experience with LLM APIs, AI development frameworks, and AI-native development environments (e.g., Claude Code and Cowork). 5. Deep, practical familiarity with modern AI tools – particularly large language models, RAG, and memory management – and a sophisticated understanding of their capabilities, limitations, and appropriate enterprise use cases. 6. Experience managing and developing technical staff, with the ability to set a high technical bar and support professional growth. 7. Genuine commitment to CHAI’s mission and the operating realities of a global health organization working in resource-constrained, cross-cultural contexts.
